Our stainless steel

Steel that behaves like gold.

Every piece we sell is made from stainless steel with a gold PVD finish. Here's what that actually means, and why we chose it.

Why stainless steel

Stainless steel is strong, it holds its shape, and it doesn't react with water, sweat or air the way brass, copper or cheap alloys do. So it won't rust, and it won't leave a green or black mark on your skin.

What gold PVD is

PVD (physical vapour deposition) bonds a thin layer of gold-toned coating to the steel at a molecular level, in a vacuum chamber. It's much harder-wearing than traditional dipped plating, which is why the colour holds up to everyday life: showers, gym, sweat, the lot.

Is it good for sensitive skin?

For most people, yes. Stainless steel is one of the most skin-friendly metals you can wear every day, which is why it's so popular for sensitive ears and skin. If you know you react to certain metals, check with your doctor before you buy.

Will it tarnish?

The steel itself won't tarnish or rust. The gold colour is a coating, so like every plated piece in the world (designer ones included), it can soften very gradually over a long time, depending on how often you wear it and what it meets. Look after it and it'll look like new for a long time. Our Care guide shows you how.

Is it real gold?

No, and we'll always be upfront about that. It's gold-toned PVD over stainless steel. You get the look, the weight and the everyday wearability, without the solid-gold price.
